Rika Taeymans, from Cirkus In Beweging sent us this news about their activities. They already planned everything about their coming workshops which will begin end of April. Here’s what she told us:

 

“We have indeed started to organize our new social circus workshop for Suitcase Circus for Youth!

What we want to do is work around the theme of “the tradition of majorettes” in combination with acrobatics, dance and juggling.

We will be working mainly with young girls (16+) and women. We will work with girls and educators from De Wissel in combination with our own members.
The VZW organization, De Wissel, is a place for young girls that have problems at home or have no home. They work with the principles of CANO.

 

Method:
CANO concept is the belief in the power of the young people and his or its habitat. CANO therefore advocates active participation and shared commitment to repair fractures created and new ones prevented.
De Wissel:
There are two initiatives or Centrums of De Wissel In Leuven, providing house and support for girls between 14 and 21 years; one with 25 girls and the other one with 10 girls. The girls who are accompanied here are often assigned by the Youth Court. Working with these girls and their environment has inspired De Wissel solutions and improvements to look outside the traditional framework. This has led to many new initiatives for girls and boys within and outside of “De Wissel”. www.dewissel.be

 

Workshop:
The main teacher that we will be working with is Nicole Claes who has been Belgian Champion in Majorettes long time ago.

We planned 6 workshops every Monday from 19.30 till 21.00 pm. on the following dates:
• April 28
• 5, 12, 19 and 26 May

Starting with a first “come and try it out” idea on the 28th of April, we will see how it goes and continue from there. It is a new idea and technique for all of us and we want to combine it with circus and performing.
In June we continue after a first evaluation of the project. ”
