Unicycling – Method learned by Nicola F. in Belgium

Nicola Fletcher from Leeds children’s circus through their partnership with Everything is Possible (United Kingdom) presents a new method she’s learned during her mobility project with Cirkus In Beweging (Leuven, Belgium):

“During the trip I had the great opportunity to take part in the unicycle workshops which I simply found fantastic. As a fellow unicyclist I’ve always struggled to teach children classes on unicycling but with talking to the other teachers I now understand why?… Unicycling is a skill that requires a lot of dedication and passion to master even the very basics which is is why so many kids struggle. I learnt that it has taken them 6weeks to teach the beginners class to ride with one hour every week (and practice at home) when with my multi circus class I only get an hour every 4-5 weeks making it impossible to crack the basic ride. I’ve now decided that I will start a new class dedicated to unicycling where they can have that focus and dedicated attention. I we also discussed different methods of learning, games, tricks and I now have a ton of valuable information I can bring back home with me and share with our club.”
